This past December, the museum hosted a community conversation about water and environmental justice that featured three local women speaking about their lifelong experiences as protectors of water. Because the event was held on a bitterly cold day, you may have missed seeing it in person, so here is a link to a video of the event posted on the museum’s YouTube Channel.
Museum Executive Director John Crippen moderated the discussion that was intended to help participants find their place in the evolving history of our relationship to the essential element of water.  Program participants included:
  • Roxanne Biidabinokwe Gould (Kitchiwikwendong Anishinaabe), Professor Emerita of Indigenous Education and Environmental Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth, founder of the Indigenous Women’s Water Sisterhood, governing council member for Makoce Ikikcupi.
  • Nichole Subola (Standing Rock Dakota), a Dakota language teacher with Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye.
  • Sandy Spieler, former Artistic Director of In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, director of the Circle of Water Circus, and creator of the touring show “Are You Thirsty?”
