Dakota people have gathered medicinal plants from the banks of the Mississippi River for thousands of years. Join us for a panel presentation with Tanaǧidaŋ To Wiŋ (Blue Hummingbird Woman or Tara Perron) and her family members to hear about their relationships with the river and Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ (Bassett Creek).

We will also learn about Háza íŋyaŋke wiŋ (Woman Who Runs for Huckleberries or Betsey St. Clair). She was a Dakota woman who cared for medicinal plants near the Mississippi River and operated a canoe ferry service in the mid-1800s. Now her descendants will discuss her legacy and ways to improve water quality in partnership with native plants.

Tanaǧidaŋ To Wiŋ is a Dakota and Ojibwe mother, author, and plant medicine enthusiast. She is also a Water Protector who works to restore water quality and honor the sacred plant nation in the Twin Cities.

This is a Pay-As-You-Can event. Advance registration is required.

The in-person event is limited to 50 people.

Thank you to the funders and partners including the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, City of Golden Valley Environmental Commission, City of Minnetonka Historical Society, and Mississippi Park Connection.
