This walking tour explores the city’s growth from flour millers to “cake eaters,” how one of the first planned suburban neighborhoods in the United States helped transition an agricultural settlement to a community synonymous with wealth. We’ll discuss the racial and economic impact of the Country Club neighborhood, the city’s reputation as Cake Eaters, and African American berry farmer BC Yancey. The tour is 2.5 miles of walking on uneven surfaces.
