Join local artist and family historian Debra George as she discusses her journey of discovery and creativity while researching her lost family history for Family in Pieces, the multi-dimensional exhibit now on display at Hennepin History Museum.
Her surprising story begins with an art exhibit deadline and two small heirlooms found while cleaning out her parents’ home. Turning to genealogy research and a deeper dive into the heirlooms, Ms. George uncovered previous generations of her family. She chose the medium of paper collage to illuminate and preserve their stories for future generations – all of which are on exhibit in Family in Pieces.
In her talk, Ms. George will discuss the artwork, how she conducted her genealogy, what she learned about her family’s connections to the early history of Minneapolis, and the impact that this project and these people have had on her life.
