Exhibition dates: November 5 , 2019 – January 2, 2021
Votes for Women commemorates the 100th anniversary of the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, which extended the right to vote to women in the United States. Minnesota was the fifteenth state to ratify the amendment in 1919. The women’s suffrage movement started in Minnesota decades earlier and many women residents of Hennepin County played a pivotal role in the effort to convince Minnesota voters to pass the amendment. Votes for Women explores the lives of the Hennepin County suffragists and the tactics they used in their quest.
HHM is offering two program series in conjunction with the exhibit:
* Suffrage Saturdays: educational activities in the Great Room of the Museum on the third Saturday of each month;
* Centennial Conversations: a series of panel discussions focusing on life for women one hundred years after winning the vote.
